お盆/Obon is coming closer. My in-laws decided to visit our family tomb before Obon to avoid heavy traffic. Unfortunately, it was raining slightly, but it’s even easy to spend at cemetery in hot summer time.
You can get the special flower bouquet for Ohakamairi at flower shops or supermarket in Obon and Ohigan time. They are already bunched and in very vivid (loud) colors, commonly sold in pairs. While I was working at flowershop when I was younger, I had tried making them for my own family in my favorite simple color like white, yellow, pale pink and light purple. I thought they must be prettier. However, I found that those simple flowers were too somber among the tombs. It might be my Japanese gene? In the Japanese cemetery, sharp vivid colors are perfect!
