You can eat it if the chicken is very very fresh. I never prepare chicken from supermarket to eat raw.
You should try it only at the authentic restaurant like 地鶏専門店 that means the restaurant specializing in chicken from the proper farm, particularly they raise the chicken for meat. How do you say ‘地鶏/jidori’ in English? the chicken raised in wild condition, and are not locked into the cage… 地鶏 is a little bit firmer than the chicken that for eggs and eaten after they got old, but 地鶏 tastes much thicker. Do you have such kind of chicken in your country? (You can call it ‘sashimi’ in this case, too.)
