明けましておめでとうございます/Happy new year!
This is my Ozoni/New year’s soup with rice cakes. Ozoni is eaten during the new year’s days. They are different by home and region. My Ozoni is clear soup of bonito, and rice cakes are round shape. In other region, especially the east side of Japan, they normally eat square shape rice cakes. On the end of last year, I bought these rice cakes from my old friend who is an artisan of Japanese-style confectionery. He is the third generation. Please look at his wonderful skill →☆ His rice cakes are so delicious and traditional. I recognized the difference from the mass-produced rice cakes.
For kids, the new year’s holiday is a very very special event! They can get Otoshidama/gifts of money from their parents and relatives. Tatsu and Momo sat straight before father and received Otoshidama in small envelopes. I think Otoshidama is good tradition for parents too. We can feel pleasure and confidence in ourselves as parents. We hand them it with all the wish for their health and growth through this year. I don’t know whether they understand our hope or not though…(>_<)
