Do you feel fatigue during the summer? Do you eat something special to get stamina to get through the summer?
Yesterday, I saw the interesting TV show that 8 foreigners from different countries talked about Japanese foods eaten only in Summer. They, except for one from Korea, said that they don’t have something particular food for summer because they don’t need to get extra stamina ready for the hotness or they’ve never felt the summer weariness in their own countries. How about you?
That program introduced the Japanese traditional foods in summer like Unagi/eel, Dojyo/weatherfish, and Mamushizake/sake with a whole snake!

うなぎ/Grilled eel

どじょう/weatherfish

まむし酒/Mamushi is a viper!
These foods have been considered as the stamina foods for the Japanese because they have high calories and mineral and also they look full of vitality?
The Japanese also eat cold foods in summer. The cold noodle is very common, and they have produced the cold curry lately. ( I’ve not tried yet.) Do you know the Japanese started drinking ice coffee for the first time in the world? The Japanese like to make the hot foods or drink cold in summer.
In the TV show, some guys accept the Japanese tendency to create the new cold food in summer, while others says its nonsense. They says hot food is good because it’s hot. Uh! I see.
They also talk about edamame/immatured soy beans eaten in summer, especially good with beer, and all of them love edamame, and some of them are addictive while they are drinking. Edamame is now on the English dictionary as an English word! Have you ever had it and how do you like it? You boil edamame with their pods and when you eat, you push a pod in front of your mouth, and a pea hop into your mouth. My daughter really likes it. She keeps eating it like a squirrel.

えだまめ
I was very surprised at hearing the guy form Canada said “I eat cold pizza. I put it in the fridge at night and eat it next morning. It’s good! It’s common in Canada and I think the American do the same.”
Really??
The show is called “cool Japan”. It’s so funny and interesting! I will see the next time.
