Are these plastic bags common in your country? I wonder it might be invented in Japan, no? We use them to compact FUTON to make them shoved into a small closet like mine. In a hot summer day, I hang all FUTON for winter to make them completely dry. And then pack and vacuum. It is kind of fun. it’s one of a few house chores that I like.
See? It’s easy to pile up many Futons in one place. I know my level of compacting them is low, because there are some tiny holes on bags maybe. I don’t care, but I needed to be hurry to finish it, you know? I had to put all my Futon into that place before they blowed up again. And I made it! So, I won, haha!
This is from my today’s dinner “Furai”, it’s named from “Fried food”. I fried shrimp as named “Ebi-furai”, and some veges. My favorite is kidney beans fry!

That’s a great idea, such bags aren’t well know in Poland. When I packed my Winter duvet this Spring I squeezed it and sat on it and stuffed it into a plastic bag, and managed to quickly fit it into a small cupboard but it immediately expanded and took all the space, I wonder if I can take it out for Winter again… *^v^*
They sell those vacuum bags everywhere in the United States, but I’ve never used them. I’m cheap, if I have to store a comforter I just put it in a heavy duty garbage bag and vacuum the air out, tie up the opening securely with rubber bands, it works almost as well and the vacuum bags you have, and it’s a lot cheaper.
I do that too!
I’m too cheap!
I love sucking the air out of stuff. I try to do it in May though, especially with winter jackets, so they don’t mould when rainy season arrives.
I didn’t know you could deep-fry beans! I tempura the vegetables that my kids wouldn’t eat otherwise. I love beans but my husband hates them all so maybe I’ll trick him like the kids!
Hi Naoko-san
Those Furai dishes look soo delicious and crispy. How do you make them?
Hi Naoko,
I too would love to know the recipe for your ebi and veg furai! I am curious to know what the other veg is in with the green beans. It looks so delicious. Thank you!
I found the movie making Ebi fry on Youtube.
You can see how to make Ebi fry from around 3:52 on that movie.
You can fry any meat like pork, chicken, beef or veg with the way showed on it..
Thank you for the recipe, Naoko!
I am really enjoying your blog. (I just found it a few weeks ago and have been catching up with your archives!) Please continue to post when you are able to find the time. It sounds like you are very busy with your job and also with your kids and family. I think that it is wonderful that you continue to follow your passion for the English language through your blog, even though you have so many other commitments. I find it to be very inspiring! Thank you!
Hi Naoko
I tried to email you to both your email accounts but for some reason both cant go through, I dont know why. I wanted to let you know I have safely given birth to a baby girl on Friday, 29th July at 1.17pm. It was an emergency delivery by caesarean section. Do drop me an email and I will send that email to you again with her photos
Hope all is well for you and family
